Statement from CMIC's Radiologists regarding the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force Recommendation on Yearly Mammograms:
Screening mammography was implemented back in the mid 1980’s in the United States and since 1990 the death rate from breast cancer has decreased by almost 30%. Prior to that time the death rate had remained unchanged for the previous 50 years. While mammography screening will not save every woman from breast cancer, thousands of lives are saved when tumors are detected at an earlier stage before they have spread.
